It has been HOT HOT HOT here in jolly ol' England...With that said I have slowed my training down a little bit. That of course will not stop me from riding in a 30 mile semi-competetive race on Sunday. As of 10 minutes ago, I am 77% of the way to my fundraising goal for this ride, and have until Wednesday the 8th to come up with the other 23%, hopefully it works itself out, as it would really suck to let all of those people down at this point. Well, time for a nap and to grill something in this beautiful weather.

Update

OK, so I haven't posted on here after every ride like I had planned to. So far training has been going fairly well..I have been setback a little bit due to an injury to my IT band, pretty much my knee hurts like hell when I ride, but it's something I intend to work through and have checked out after the London to Paris in September. Put in almost 45 miles yesterday, good ride, the wind actually kept itself at bay for a change. Today is an off day due to rain and my knee hurting, hope to get some good miles in over the weekend. Also, I have until July 8th to finish raising my funds for the ride, so please please please donate.

Tired

I just want to make a quick post to say thank you to those who have donated thus far to my ride and charity, The Arthritis Research Campaign. Tonight's Wii Bowling Tournament was an overall success, we were able to raise around 140 pounds...Unfortunately I am still a long way from my goal of 1250 pounds by June 17th....I know it may be a lot to ask in this time of economic troubles, but if you could dig deep in your pockets and donate to the cause I would appreciate it as if I don't raise the needed funds this will all be for naught, and I won't be able to ride for a great cause that means so much to myself and my family. Talk about a hot seat..My bum is still sore from Sunday's ride, but alas, it must be done. Started out as a slow ride was only going to go 5 miles or so, ended up riding for an hour and almost hit 15 miles when I pulled back into the base parking lot. Not a bad ride, averaged just under 15 mph, but fought a nice head wind on the trip back that made keeping pace a bit difficult..I wanna get out tomorrow but alas I have softball practice, guess my behind will have to wait until the weekend.

First Real Training Day

So, today was my first real day in the saddle in a couple of years...Went out at 2pm with a guy from work who I am beginning to think is more of a cycling machine than a human being with a bike strapped to his feet! The plan was 60 miles round trip from RAF Alconbury to Bedford...The ride ended up being 3 1/2 gruelling hours of riding. I didn't realize there are so many hills around here and this was way too big a ride for me today. I think I did fine up to about the 20 mile mark, where being saddle sore, lack of training and not much to eat started paying me back. We (I say we, but it was really Painter realizing I would never make 60 miles) decided to head back after 2 hours of riding. 2 hours only yielded 26 miles of riding, it was a little embarrassing I must say, but I guess we all have to start somewhere. By the time we hit the 42 mile mark I was completely spent, stopped by the office and waited for my partner to finish the ride and come pick me up in the car, again, not my proudest moment, but my goal is for it to not happen again. Tomorrow is regular Navy PT, which means pushups/situps and probably a 4 mile run. I am going to try to get back on the bike Friday afternoon and log some miles, this time the goal will be more managable, probably around 20 miles at a decent pace, and a route with fewer hills. Hopefully by September I will hav this down a little better seeing as day one of the charity ride is 90 miles.....
